This picture was taken on the Mallard Lake trail on the way up. You can see a beautiful meadow behind me where we would have loved to see a deer or two. The entire way up this hike you could see how the fire in the 80's ripped through the trees, leaving them charred and naked. Mallard Lake
Mallard Lake is a beautiful lake about 4 1/2 miles from Old Faithful (In Yellowstone National Park). We backpacked in an stayed the night right on the shoreline in this very peaceful setting. There was the occasional beaver and of course mallard duck, but other than that we had the place all to ourselves. I snapped this photo just before we sat down to eat our freeze-dried fried chicken and potatoes.
